The Cullman Times

Local band Third Door to play at the Apollo
by Mike Neill 1/15/2000

Holly Pond - Third Door, the popular alternative rock band, is making waves in bigger ponds than just Cullman.
Next Tuesday the band will fly to New York City to play at the famous Apollo Theater. In September singer/bass player Jason McBrayer, drummer Justin Oliver and guitarist Shane Scott won first place in a national contest of unsigned bands held by Teen People magazine.
Their song, "Little Crazy," will be featured on a Warner Brothers compilation CD with such notable artists as Britney Spears, N'Sync and 98 Degrees. The album is due out sometime this year.
In the meantime, the band said its homeade CD, "Apartment 82" has sold out at the Pharaoh Shop. More have been ordered.
That CD is the band's last chance to capitalize on the success of "Little Crazy." After the compilation CD comes out Warner Brothers will own the rights to the song.
The first time they recorde it they were in Shane Scott's apartment, hence the name "Apartment 82."
The next time they recorded the song it was in Nashville in a studio Shania Twain had been in only a few days before. Vince Gill was recoding just down the hall and the president of Virgin Records stoppen in briefly to hear the band. "We were like kids in a candy store," Scott said.
Third Door worked 12 hours a day for two days straight recording the song with one of the top enjineers in the country. The studio cost $1,600 a day to rent. Teen People picked up the tab.
Now the band turns its attentiontoward the Big Apple and the Apollo. Fans at home can watch the show live on the internet at www.teenpeople-apollo.com. The concert is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm. on Wednesday. Scott said he isn't nervous about playing at the Apollo before an already sold out crowd. He said he's comfortable on stage.
The band has performed a lot in only its second full year of existence. The New York show may be duplicated in Los Angeles at a later time, Scott said. Scott said the band didn't know it would be playing the Apollo until a couple of weeks ago. After New York, Scott said the band will complete its second CD and play local shows.
